From Slave to Warrior

The story of Adewale

Book 1

As he lay there is the drooling hot sun.

he sings the tale of an old slave song.

“wade in the water...wade in the water children

wade in the water.. god’s gonna trouble the water”

he and a couple other of his slave mates plan on a

way to get out of there terrible punishment.

For a long while they cry about their lives being taken

away from them in trade for cruel punishment.

Adewale needs to get out of this lifestyle.

He and his other slave mates snuck down to the well

were they can get a fresh drink of water.

They sit there in the night and look hard at the stars

above them and wonder if they will ever look at the

stars as free men.

Adewale is an african american from south africa.

He has a mother and two sister’s, his dad had died in an hunting

accident.

He and his family had been sold into slavery

after his camp had been raided by the british.

He is

now on a white family’s plantation living with one of his sisters.

He and one of his sister  had been separated from his

mother and his other sister.

They have been slaves for 3 years now.

all the time he dreams about living as a free african american

without worrying about being taken away and being sold

and then ultimately beaten.

He is gonna make a change… and soon.

Book 2

The day after he was ready to go, he had gathered

everything that he needed to set on his journey

to escape the plantation and become a free man.

As he walks down to the cotton field.

Adewale in his rags feels

the cool breeze and pictures his mother and sister.

He, now pondering on the situation gives him more

reason to get out and escape.

Collecting the cotton he waits till the guard walks

back to the plantation house. The second he turns away

Adewale runs as fast as possibly to the nearby woods

where he can get out of sight of any possible guard.

His heart racing, his chest pumping, he sighs in relief.

But then realizes that its not over and he may

have been in over his head this time. Catching his breath

now wanting to get away from the plantation primasis

as possible, he quickly gets up and starts walking.

Not knowing where he is walking to he keeps on.

3 hours later….

Quietly walking out of the woods he is greeted

by an old dirt road of which he doesn’t know where it leads to

He know stepping onto the cool hard ground, he shivers

Waiting to make sure nobody is coming down the road he looks both

ways articulately.  He now quietly walking down the road

smiles in great relief. he knows that he has escaped and knows that

the plantation owners have set out to look for him, but he doesn’t care.

He knows that he’s gonna make it, he knows it.

after a long walk down the cool dirt road

he walks into the city of havana where all he can see is people

but none of his kind.

In his rags he walks down the road filled

with people, some looking puzzled and some that don’t care.

Adewale now looking nervous as hell sprints past a group

of spanish soldiers.

He now running like a gazelle looks behind him

all he sees is dust then out of dirt mist he sees soldiers

running after him.

He gives up, all that he has been through he has given up

the soldiers come sprinting up beside him.

“Cómo te llamas!!” said the spanish soldier

Adewale not saying a word.

“De dónde eres!!” said the the spanish soldier

Adewale as bravely as he is, stands up and says

“I am from South Africa and am a slave”

The soldiers now staring  almost examining him

In the best english he can, the soldier says

“come with us”

Tears now coming down his cheeks as the soldiers escort him

toward a massive slave ship he thinks to himself why, why.

Stepping up the wooden ramp into the ship he stops at the top

turns around then crosses his chest and prays for god to save his soul.

Book 3

Waking up in the cold hull of the ship

he hears the creaking of the wooden planks below

him.

He looks straight in front of him to find his

ankles chained to brass studded collars.

To the left

of him there is a white man dressed in pirate garb.

Adewale as curious as he is asks the man where he’s from

the response is little to none

“Why do you care” the man says.

“Because your gonna help me get out of here” says adewale

“What’s your name I’m Edward”

“Adewale, my name is Adewale but you can call me Ade for short”

The men both agree if they work together that they will be able to escape and become free.

Adewale with his brute strength smashes the ankle chains with a piece

of wooden board.

slowly but surely they slide the chains off their bodys

and  head for the nearest exit.

As they come up on

a guard Adewale quickly picks up the wooden plank ready to strike

Crack!! the wooden board hitting off the mans sends chills down the bodies

of others.

The body hits the ground

with great power and knocks the lite candle onto the floor.

The ground quickly lights up with fire.

Now in panic Adewale and Edward search for an exit.

out of the corner of his eye Adewale spots an exit.

Climbing up the ladder he can hear the cries of wounded slaves.

opening the latch to the upper deck he sees a bloody mess filled

with wounded men that are begging to be helped.

Edward swiftly picks up a sword and tosses it to Adewale.

“Here take this” Says Edward.

Adewale looks to the right of him beating a slave to get up.

Adewale with two hands on the sword slices through the mans head as if it were budder.

“Get up my brethren” says Adewale.

“What are you looking at get up” Adewale says.

Adewale looking to the left of him sees Edward in danger of his life

Adewale sprinting toward Edward almost gets there but with a gunshot to the head Edward

Hits the cool ground with force.

With fire in his eyes Adewale strikes the spanish soldier

through the eye, blood rushes down the soldiers face like

a waterfall. Standing in the middle of the ship,

theres nothing but silence and the burning of the ship.

Hundreds of bodies

laying on the ground of the deck in pools of blood.

Just staring adewale takes

a quick glance at the sword in his hands.

To only think that this saved his life

He stares out to the sea and can see that there is something off

in the distance.

Book 4

Jumping out of the burning ship he heads toward

the undiscovered island.

Swimming stroke by stroke

he is getting tired to the point he cannot breath.

pushing onward to the island he stops and thinks

Could it be true, am I free.

15 minutes later...

Adewale reaches the white sandy beach filled with

tropical palm trees and all.

Now laying there

he embraces his surroundings.

Taking a deep breath and and closing his eyes

he is finally at peace.

Something he has been

waiting for all of his life.

Opening his eyes he watches the

sun go down and realizes he needs to find a place to rest

for the night.

Taking palm tree leafs and putting them

on the ground created a nice little cacun.

The sun drifts off

and he is left with the cool breeze of the night.

Adewale taking another leaf puts it over his body for extra warmth

then drifts off to sleep.

The next morning Adewale is awoken by

the sounds of cannons being fired.

He springs up from his little cancun and looks to see

were the noises are coming from and sees a british ship attacking

what looks to be an enemy spanish Schooner.

Ignoring the sounds he walks over to the white sandy beach

sits down and looks out into the ocean.

Scanning the ocean with such brilliance he spots a ship

he quickly notices that its the same kind of ship that he was on.

For a while he sits there and stares at it.

Immediately he knows its a slave ship.

The ship seems to be anchored.

“Its looks to be 200 yards away” he says

Running into the water he is revived by the chilly water

and is determined to get to that ship.

5 minutes later…

coming up to the ship he tries not to make much noise.

Looking to the back of the ship to see that there is cover there,

he quickly swims over to it.

Now with the boat rocking back and forth

he tries to climb the ship.

As if he was climbing a rock wall he quickly gets up the top of the ship.

Looking over the guard railing he sees not many soldiers.

Looking down by his side, he sees his sword.

Then quickly glancing up over the guard railing.

He jumps up into the ship and quickly the soldiers

are alerted that he is on the ship.

With two hands on the sword Adewale

looks to see where the soldiers are.

bang!! looking to the left of him he sees

somebody with a gun.

Charging at them he pirouettes slicing through the mans body.

Swiftly running to his next victim.

he grabs the soldier and snaps his neck.

The soldier hitting the ground like a bag of bricks.

Gets other soldiers alarmed.

Screaming as loud as he can he knocks the two guards

down and slits both of their throats.

There is all but silence for the next minute.

Standing up Adewale walks over to the each and every body

and tosses it off the side of the boat.

Opening the latch to the lower deck he is greeted by

slaves. Helping them get free and getting them up to the deck

he speaks to each and every one of them.

“Now is the time to be free. Now is the time to live a happy life without being chased and beaten’. Anys that would be smart enough to take the ship with me would be welcome. Any that will not take the ship with me may leave.”

All the slaves agree to take the ship.

Adewale with no sailing experience

quickly gets the hang of it.

With the cool breeze scraping against his body

he is brought to new life.

He has always wanted to have his very own ship.

Now he has that.

Saying it out loud he names the ships Adi.

Book 5

Now with a ship and shipmates

adewale sails to the cave off in the distance

With the cool wind in brushing up against

him he is at peace looking toward the sea in front of him

its nothing but pure beauty.

Coming up upon the cave he spots a creature

of sorts.

The creature has the shape of an human

but has animal pelt as its clothing.

Splash the anchor hits the ocean water

adewale jumps out of the boat

and quickly starts swimming toward the cave.

A few of his shipmates have come along for protection.

Then from the corner of his eye

he can see the creature scamper off into the cave.

as he is making his way toward the cave he feels a not so safe feeling.

standing outside the cave he waits

and finally decides that it’s best not to go in there.

He quickly gets his men to find a place to rest for the night.

Still standing there they creature

appears and it is a human/animal creature.

Taking his sword out of its place.

Adewale turns toward his men and then strikes the creature through the eye.

With it screaming for its companions he slices

through its head, nothing but silence.

“Get over here” says Adewale

his men run over to him and help

take the body and burn it.

One by one his men take sticks

and stab into the creature to secure it to the ground.

As he looks into the cave he spits on the creature

and screams.

“You damn creatures, come get us now” said adewale.

The next day Adewale is awaken by a scream all the way across the island.

It is a familiar sound.

listening closely he relizes that it is one of his men.

Sprouting up out of the sand he grabs his sword and

tells his men to get ready for a fight.

Looking all around him he can see nothing but the cave and a large cliff.

There are only two ways to get across the island and those are the two.

Knowing that if he goes through the cave he will most likely die.

he wisely chooses to climb the cliff and get to the other side.

Sprinting over to where it is.

he jumps up and grabs the side of the cliff and starts climbing.

his men follow behind him.

10 minutes later…

Reaching the top of the cliff he spots a creature.

slowly coming up behind it he snaps its neck and keeps walking.

running and running he reaches the other side of the cliff.

Looking down over the side he spots 4 of his men being heavily guarded.

by these creatures.

one of the men that is with him pulls his sword out.

Not knowing what he is going to do he swiftly throws it at the creature.

A loud screech came from the creature as it was hit.

adewale quickly gets down the cliff and starts the full on battle.

to his right the creature comes straight toward him.

trying to pull his sword out the creature with its sharp teeth

bits him and tears a chunk of flesh out of his body.

“AAAAAH” Adewale screams.

falling to the ground.

Thump he hits the white sandy beach and slowly fades off.

Book 6

Adewale is awoken and is still laying where he had fallen.

with a man beside him he is alarmed.

“Whoa whoa” said adewale.

“Don’t worry captain im one of your men”

Looking around everybody is dead but them the creatures littered

the sandy beach.

So did his men.

“What had happened” said Adewale.

“They had all died from just killing each other and do to injury some had died.” said his crew mate.

“Don’t worry they are all dead”

“My name is John”.

John helps adewale off the ground.

they both quickly run through the tunnel to get back to the ship.

As they reach the other side adewale is relieved to see that it is still there.

he and John run into the water to get cooled off.

From there they reach the boat and sail off.

Not knowing where they are going adewale tries to find out more about John.

As they both exchange stories to how they got there.

Adewale is awakened to find out that John is from the same plantation

that he was from.

But yet they never encountered each other because they were on

two different sides of the plantation.

time passes and they have created a bond and now are loyal friends.

They have reached a land of which they don’t know that name of.

Adewale docks the boat and with John by his side is greeted by

two beautiful young women.

Adewale not interested he walks away.

Looking around the land he sees nothing but guards and slaves.

With money in his pocket looks to John to help assist him in finding new crew members.

John runs off the find members and so doesn’t adewale.

As he walks around he approaches a slave auction and buys all the slaves.

After he had done that he took them to a private place and announced.

that they would be working on a ship as crew members and would get little pay.

They all agreed.

Adewale walking steadily now heres somebody fighting.

Looking to his left he spots a slave fighting a guard.

“Hey Hey” Adewale yells.

“Stop that now” he said.

The guard surprised that he said that lets the slave go.

“Here I will pay for him” says adewale.

The slave quickly runs away.

Now adewale chases after him until the slave trips in a hole and tumble to the ground.

“what are you doing” Screams Adewale.

“I’m trying to help you” he said.

Slave with an angry look in his eyes agrees to become a crew member and head for the boat.

“Hey Adewale I found some more crew members” says John.

They both head back to the ship.

Out of the corner of his eye Adewale spots a weapon shop.

“Perfect” he whispers to himself.

As adewale walks into the shop

he is bombarded by the amount of weaponry on the wall.

Looking for the perfect weapon he spots a machete.

And without a doubt knew that was the weapon he wanted.

With a new crew and new weapon he is determined  to get back at the creatures and their leader.

Book 7

Walking up the wooden dock to his boat

his crew is working hard to learn the ways of a crew member.

Climbing onto the boat he is surprised by the new brass wheel John

had got him.

“This is a token of my gratitude” said John.

“Ever since you saved me from being a slave again I have always wanted to thank you” John said.

“Thank you” Adewale said.

With everything in pace they set sail to the island that they will call home.

As they approach the island they can see that the creatures

have taken full control of it.

Now with the anchor in the water they wait and strategize to take the island.

Little did adewale know

that they boat was equipped with cannons and a lot of them.

They would first fire the cannons at the island and the creatures tower.

Then they would infiltrate the island

and do whatever it takes to get it back and make it home.

But the key to them winning this battle would be attacking at night.

Hour by hour pass and it is almost time to attack.

His men getting ready, loading the cannons and now they

are ready for a fight.

Blast they cannons sound the battle has now began.

As they hit the tower.

The creatures are alarmed and do not know what is happening.

Chunk by chunk the creatures are taken out until its safe enough to infiltrate.

Each man on the ship dives into the water and starts swimming to the island.

Adewale is the last man to get into the water he waits and looks at the place he will call home soon.

With fire in his eyes he reaches the beach.

his eyes are set on the leader of the creatures.

As they come at adewale he slices through their bodies like butter.

With only their leader left the crew, Adewale and John run at the fearless leader.

As they get closer they realize he is a big creature and the biggest of them all standing at a height of 15 feet tall.

He is force to be reckon with.

But adewale doesn’t care.

Adewale draws the first blow to him stabbing into his massive leg.

“AHHH” The creature screams

Adewale carving him up  he falls to the ground.

With a swift swipe of his machete he cuts the creatures head off.

Thump.

The head hits the ground and the battle is finally over.

This land is his and his forever.

Book 8

With the battle over he now can rest.

Laying in the sand he takes a look back at his journey.

from the beginning being a slave.

working on the cotton fields.

And then escaping to become a warrior.

It all feels surreal to him.

Closing his eyes he takes a big sigh of relief.

Reopening his eyes he can see everything fall into place.

his village will soon be one to be loved and cared about.

His fight for freedom has been a tough one but he is here and he doesn’t want to go back.

Now getting up he takes a walk into the cave.

It is now filled with light and happiness.

Making his way to the other side of the cave he finds the perfect spot.

The perfect spot to build his own house.

something that he has dreamed about having his entire life.

Again the memories of how he got there are coming back to him.

Tears now come down his cheeks like a waterfall.

He is truly at peace and always will be.

15 min later...

Running through the cave John has found dinner.

“Adewale I have found something to eat” Said John.

“What is it”adewale said.

“3 boar we just caught them now” John said.

They both run back to the main village.

And there in front of his eyes are the three biggest boars he has ever seen.

“Lets eat” Adewale yells.

With a smile on his face he looks at his crew they are also happy.

As they build a fire.

Adewale preps the boars to be cooked.

First he finds a stick to put through the

boars body.

From there he they start to cook the first boar.

Book 9

When the boar is ready to eat.

Adewale sits down and there is nothing but a smile on his face.

Everytime he looks out at the sea in front of him.

It makes him feel as though he had accomplished something.

Now that he is done accomplishing what he had always dreamed of.

He starts to feel like he is an everyday person.

Not somebody that is a slave or is killing people to become free.

Nothing is his mind but peace.

That is all that he can think about.

After he is done eating.

He goes back to the place where he will build his house.

Laying on the ground he looks up to see the stars above.

Then he slowly dozes off to sleep.

The sleep does not last long.

He is awoken by John and his crew telling old folk tales and jokes.

Adewale quickly chuckles and dozes off to sleep for the second time.

This time not being woken up.

One Year Later…

Book 10

With the whole village finished.

It is a beautiful sight.

There is so many people wondering around just admiring what has come to be in just one year.

from being a slave and then ultimately becoming free,

is amazing.

The way people look at adewale is so different

than what it was before.

He is known as saviour and someone who is looked up to.

But since that year has passed a friend of Adewale had died.

John had died of illness in his sleep.

It was one of the darkest moments in the community.

but adewale and the village had managed to get through it.

Adewale’s house is also now complete.

It is one of the most unique structures that he had ever seen.

The sheer size of the house is amazing.

It is three floors high and has a beautiful deck looking out into the ocean.

adewale walks onto the deck and looks out into the ocean like he had did

one year prior and thought to himself.

I am at peace.

The word that has motivated adewale create this village and thrive.

The one thing that Adewale has started to do during the year was,

Boarding slave ships and freeing the slaves so that they too could accomplish what

Adewale did.

Throughout his whole entire journey to get where he is

is has been through thick and thin.

But the one thing that they will never be able to take away from him is

...Peace.
